Luggage storage Soho London

Liberty, the famous luxury department store from 1875, selling fabrics, fashion for all ages and genders, and glamorous homeware, is located on Regent Street, with entrances on Carnaby Street and Great Marlborough Street. This vast building, with its mock Tudor façade and stylish interior, is not to be missed - even if the price of the items puts you off buying very much in there!

The underground stations of Piccadilly Circus, Tottenham Court Road, and Oxford Circus surround the Soho district, meaning the Central, Bakerloo, Northern, and Piccadilly Lines will all take you there. There are 21 bus stops in the area, which serve 30 London Bus routes - a full list can be seen here.

Chinatown is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Soho and, indeed, in London. Located on Gerrard Street, just off Shaftesbury Avenue, and encompasses parts of Wardour Street. It began as a center for all things Chinese in the early 1970s. It is home to many wonderfully authentic Chinese restaurants, shops, and decorations, including the Qing dynasty-style Chinatown Gate on Wardour Street. Wander around the iconic Liberty Department store, and the Photographer’s Gallery and MinaLima shop are well worth visiting and described in more detail below. Hamley’s Toy Shop is a vast, historic store providing delights for children. Some amazing theatres, like the Apollo, the Sondheim, and the Prince Edward Theatre, should be on the list for anyone interested in the performing arts. Soho is a great place to relax in the evenings, with a drink and some live music. One of the more notable venues in Soho is Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club on Frith Street, which opened in 1959 and hosts some of the city's best live jazz and blues.

London’s Soho district is very famous for its wide range of shopping options. As noted above, the Liberty store on Regent Street is famous for its fabrics, clothes, and homeware. Music heads should pay Denmark Street a visit, known for its music and record shops. Berwick Street is packed with chic, elegant clothes shops for men and women, while Carnaby street in the heart of Soho has a truly eclectic mix of interesting shops to hold your attention. In truth, though, the whole district of Soho is a hotbed of shops, varying from upmarket, expensive luxury goods, artwork, interior decorations, etc., to shops selling vintage items, antiques, and curiosities.

Covent Garden, another bustling, glamorous area of central London and home to many of the most famous theaters in the West End, is actually only a fifteen-minute walk from Soho. However, if walking is impossible, the Covent Garden underground station is just two stops on the Piccadilly Line from Piccadilly Circus.

In truth, Soho is not an area well known for its museums but rather for shops, bars, and music venues. The Photographer’s Gallery, on Ramillies Street, is worth visiting for anyone interested in photography. It opened in 1971 and was the first public art gallery devoted only to photography. Another interesting spot for some cultural history (if not quite a museum) is the house of Mina Lima on Wardour Street, the graphic design studio behind the props and artwork for the Harry Potter films. The British Museum is just a fifteen-minute walk northeast of Soho and is rightly ranked as one of the most impressive collections in the world, housing amazing artifacts from around the world. The National Gallery in Trafalgar Square is only a ten-minute walk towards the river, housing some of the best European masterpieces ever created.
