Luggage storage Piccadilly Circus

An Underground station, Piccadilly Circus, is serviced by the Bakerloo and Piccadilly lines. The 12, 88, 94, 139, 159, and 453 buses also stop at Piccadilly Circus.

Beside Piccadilly Circus is the famous Chinatown, settled by Chinese immigrants in the early 20th century and now home to some of the city's best authentic Chinese food spots. Buckingham Palace, the iconic home of the British Royal family, is also within walking distance. Carnaby Street, one of the most famous and glamorous shopping streets in London, is also nearby. The British Museum is also a must-visit, around a fifteen-minute walk to the northeast and free to enter, it houses some of the most incredible artifacts from around the world but is sometimes controversial, as many countries try to repatriate their country’s priceless treasures housed in the museum.

As Piccadilly Circus is such a tourist bus hub, many of the restaurants in the square cater to mass tourism - like the Hard Rock Café, for example - but if you’re willing to walk just a little bit further afield, there are some of London’s best restaurants very nearby. Check out Brasserie Saint-Germain on Regent’s Street for some top-quality French cuisine, while Bentley’s Oyster Bar and Grill on Swallow Street offers some stylish meat and seafood cooked in the modern British style. For a true London experience, don’t miss Afternoon Tea at the Café Royal on Regent’s street, where you will find some truly memorable food and beverages in a glamourous location.

Fortnum and Mason, a company formed in 1707 and now with a chain of department store locations, has its flagship location in Piccadilly Circus and is famous for its extensive food hall offering luxury foods. Lilywhites is a sports retailer on the corner of Regents Street and Piccadilly Circus and is popular with tourists, offering very good prices for things like football jerseys. The former Swan & Edgar department store is now the primary location of the clothing brand The Sting, while the London Pavilion is now a shopping mall connected to the Trocadero Centre. In short, there are great shopping options around Piccadilly Circus.

The iconic illuminated signs at Piccadilly Circus are a site to see in themselves and often carry some topical, humorous advertisements and messages. In the Circus also is the Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain, erected in 1893 to celebrate the life and philanthropy of Lord Shaftesbury; the statue on the fountain represents the Greek God Anteros. On the northeastern side can be found the famous London Pavilion, once a music hall but now a glamourous shopping Arcade. On the south side can be found the Criterion Theatre, a 600-person capacity underground theatre dating from Victorian times.

Famous for its bright neon signs, Piccadilly Circus was built in 1819. The area, strangely, is named after the “Piccadill”, an old-fashioned type of collar sold by a famous tailor in the region in the 17th century. It’s a major shopping and entertainment spot in central London, where locals and tourists can enjoy several cinemas and theatres. It is such a well-known and busy epicenter of London life that it has been incorporated into a phrase - describing something as being “like Piccadilly Circus” means it is busy and hectic!

The bright advertisements on screens around the Circus are as iconic for London as those in Times Square are to New York. Often topical and humorous, they always get people talking. Accessible through the Tube stop Piccadilly Circus, this major square is also close to many bars and restaurants, which makes it a popular nightlife spot. Piccadilly Circus is within walking distance of Chinatown, the National Gallery, and Trafalgar Square.
