Learn more about Old Town

The old city of Prague, a world UNESCO heritage site, is located on both banks of the Vltava River in the center of the city. It is home to many historic landmarks, including the famous Charles Bridge, Old Town Square, and the Prague Astronomical Clock. The architecture in the old city is a mix of Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque styles, and visitors will be amazed by the intricate details and stunning beauty of the buildings. Much of the city dates back to Renaissance times, and the feeling of being steeped in history as you walk these cobbled streets is unmistakable.

One of the most popular attractions in the old city is the Charles Bridge, which was built in the 14th century and is decorated with 30 statues of saints. The bridge offers brilliant views of the city and is a popular spot for street performers, artists, and musicians. Another must-visit attraction in the old city is the Old Town Square, which is home to the iconic Astronomical Clock. The clock dates back to the 15th century and is a marvel of engineering, featuring moving figures and intricate astronomical displays, and is the oldest clock still in operation anywhere in the world!

The old city also has many museums, galleries, and churches. St. Vitus Cathedral, for example, is a breathtaking building dating back to the late Middle Ages. At the same time, the Jewish Museum offers a glimpse into the rich but often tragic history of the Jewish community in Prague. Visitors to the old city can also enjoy traditional Czech cuisine at the many restaurants and cafés, sample local beer at the breweries, and shop for souvenirs and gifts at the markets and shops. There are plenty of good hotels and Airbnb options if you also choose to stay somewhere central.
